Trail Club Members with Gemma Byrd, Australia Exchange Student from 2005-06

Australian Exchange Student from 2005-06, Gemma Byrd, pays Trail Club a visit on March 1, 2011

Our Club has received a District Simplified Grant to purchase equipment for the concession stand at the soccer field to benefit the students.

Throughout the year, we assist the Factoryville Fire Company with their Red Cross Blood Drives.

A member of the Trail Rotary Club volunteers at the Factoryville Community Library every Saturday in order to keep the library open so that residents may enjoy its benefits.

An Apple Pie Bakeoff was our theme for the Annual Christy Matthewson Day.  Julie Hanyon was the winning baker.   It was great fun for all who participated, especially for those who sampled and bought pies!

During the fall we sold lottery tickets as a fund-raiser to benefit our community.

Mary Spegnar, Interact advisor at LTHS, was recognized for her many years of working with the Interact Club.

Interact Club Purple Pinky Day at Lacka. Trail HS

In November, the Interact Club had a week-long Purple Pinky Day at the Lackawanna Trail High School.  Shown above with the students is Rose Opshinsky, our Interact Advisor from the Trail Rotary Club.   They provided a lot of awareness and raised nearly $300 which they donated toRotary International for Polio.  Members of our club helped with the event that was held at the LTHS and also at Ray's Shursave in Factoryville.

On Nov. 8, we had a Charter Night Celebration.  PDG Gus Vlassis was honored for his efforts for starting Trail Rotary Club.  PDG Attny. Matt Cartwright spoke about Rotary, what it is and does.

Members of our club helped the Salvation Army by "Ringing the Bell".  Gene Perner really enjoyed meeting and greeting people making donations.  It was very "heart warming" to him.

InterFaith gives us a needy family for Christmas; and we all shop and wrap gifts for them.

On Dec. 15, we had our annual Christmas party at the home of Pat Lione with her enormous, beautifully decorated tree!

Ed Nowakowski was recognized for his "Integrity and High Ethical standards" and for all that he does for our Rotary Club through his printing business.    On Jan. 11, he spoke at our club about Christy Matthewson,  born in Factoryville,  and member of Baseball Hall of Fame.

On Feb. 15, the Keystone Rotaract Club gave a check for $500 to help purchase a van for a Rehab hospital in Colombia.  The Trail club participated in this effort too, by donating $1,000.  Ray Petty gave a donation, as well.

The Essay Contest had entries from throughout the District writing about, "Service Above Self - What does it Mean?"  The winner was Kim Martin from Lackawanna Trail High School!  Trail Rotary had chosen her essay as the best from our contestants from the school.  Then we were all delighted to hear that she had the winning essay throughout the District!

Interact Club Members at Breakfast

Ray Petty and Colleen Nelson making omelets.      Interact students from Lackawanna Trail HS.

The Interact Club held a Pancake Breakfast on April 3 at Gin's Restaurant.  They raised money to send students to RYLA in July.  The Trail Rotary helped them with this fundraiser by selling tickets, working at the breakfast,  and eating some great pancakes!

We have a plot at Christy Matthewson Park that we maintain.  Here is Barbara Petty and Martin Reynolds cleaning up at the park.

We had our Bowling Tournament the weekend of April 9.

Our Annual Golf Tournament was held on June 6, Monday at Stonehedge Golf Course.  Proceeds will benefit Polio Eradication and our local community.  It was a beautiful day for golf!

We are excited to have some new faces around our table for lunch on Tuesdays:  Will Eggleston, Heather Kern and Colleen Nelson.

PLEASE JOIN US!  We are making a difference in our community and in the world and you can be a part of it too!  Stop in for lunch and a good time!
