Theodore (Ted) Silver
District Governor 2009 - 2010
Rotary Club of Milford-Matamoras
DG Ted and Mary
Invited to join the Rotary Club of Milford-Matamoras, Ted became an active member in early 1989 and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by his club in 1997. In 2004 Ted also became a charter member of the District 7410 Paul Harris Society and earned a second Paul Harris. Currently he now has his 8thPaul Harris recognition, Paul Harris plus two rubies.
He served his club as President twice in 1999-2000 and then again in 2000-2001. During that time he was awarded two Presidential Citations. Ted has served District 7410 on various District Committees over the years serving as the Assistant Governor At-Large working with the Cluster AG's and all of the clubs in the District as well as serving as the District Conference Chair in 2004.
For the 2007-2008 Rotary Year Ted chaired the Annual Funds Program for District 7410’s Rotary Foundation Committee. Ted is a graduate of the Rotary Leadership Institute, and has become active in International Service and has represented District 7410 and his Club at meetings in Central and South America.
During the 2002-03 Rotary year, Ted also traveled to Venezuela and was successful in establishing a Centennial Twin Club relationship in District 4380 with the Rotary Club of Barquisimeto Nueva Segovia in Barquisimeto, Venezuela and the Rotary Club of Milford-Matamoras, a relationship that is still ongoing. As part of the Twin Club relationship Ted, was instrumental in securing a Matching Grant that has already begun to greatly improve "Quality of Life" to the 300,000 residents of the community that are served by Hospital Rotario. Operated by Fundarosa, a foundation established and overseen by the Rotary Club of Nueva Segovia that is supported by the six other Rotary Clubs in Barquisemeto, Hospital Rotario was provided much need modern equipment permitting major surgical procedures to be performed. The total value of this project has reached over $350,000.00 USD of value and should reach the $1,000,000 USD mark by the end of 2010.
Ted has been recognized with numerous humanitarian awards in Venezuela such as "Unica Clase" of the Order of the "Batalla de Los Cerritavis Blancos" for his leadership of his clubs’ efforts. On September 20th 2005, Ted attended the formal dedication of the new "Surgical and Recovery Rooms" and at that time the Governor of Lara State, Venezuela, by his authority, declared Ted a " Citizen of Venezuela" with Special Rights and Privileges. Ted is also an "active" Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Neueva Segovia de Barquisimeto of District 4380 in Venezuela.
In 2004 Ted was also instrumental in establishing a Centennial Twin Club relationship with the Rotary Clubs of Newfoundland, PA and Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras that allowed them to successfully secure a Matching Grant to help control Dunge Fever in the Copan region of Western Honduras. For the Rotary year 2003-04 Ted was also named "Rotarian of the Year" for District 7410. He is also a regular attendee at the Rotary International Conventions and has attended TRF (The Rotary Foundation) seminars and training sessions held in the United States, Central and South America.
Ted and his wife Mary who is also a Paul Harris Fellow, are franchisees of Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell, operating restaurants in the New York, New Jersey and Northeast PA Tri-State area. Ted has served the KFC North East Franchise Association as its Vice President and Chair of the it’s Distribution Committee as well as sitting on the Board of the Association of Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchises that represents KFC Franchisees form around the world.
Ted and mary are regular attendees to the International Conventions.
They have three children and five grandchildren three of which attended the Rotary International Convention in Salt Lake City and are looking froward to Montreal.
